A complete ban has been imposed on the entry of vehicles carrying animals onto motorways across the country ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, officials confirmed.
According to a Central Region spokesperson, the decision has been taken to ensure public safety and maintain smooth traffic flow during the busy Eid period. Authorities said that overloaded and poorly maintained animal transport vehicles have previously been linked to serious road accidents on motorways.
Under the new restrictions, all vehicles transporting sacrificial animals will be diverted to alternative routes instead of being allowed on motorway networks. Officials stated that the move is necessary to reduce risks and prevent hazardous incidents.
Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have been instructed to set up checkpoints at key motorway entry points to enforce the ban effectively. Authorities will also take strict action against illegal parking near cattle markets and motorway interchanges.
Officials further warned that violations of traffic and loading regulations will be dealt with strictly under the law. The overall aim of the measure, they said, is to improve road safety and ensure uninterrupted traffic flow during the Eid-ul-Adha season.
