The Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) has been directed to halt the launch of any new housing projects until it completes its ongoing developments, following concerns over delays in several long-pending schemes.
The decision was discussed during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works, where lawmakers reviewed the progress of FGEHA projects and expressed concern over missed completion deadlines that have left thousands of allottees awaiting possession of their plots and apartments.
According to officials from the Ministry of Housing and Works, the restriction is intended to ensure that the authority focuses its resources on completing existing projects before introducing new ones. Committee members emphasized that addressing the backlog should be the top priority to improve project delivery and restore public confidence.
One of the key projects reviewed during the meeting was Green Enclave-I in Bhara Kahu, which has faced prolonged delays despite being under development for several years. Legislators urged the authority to expedite work on delayed schemes rather than expanding its portfolio with additional housing projects.
Officials informed the committee that a formal ban on launching new FGEHA schemes is already in place. The ministry stated that all available financial and administrative resources will now be directed toward accelerating the completion of ongoing developments.
FGEHA is currently overseeing several residential projects in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, including Green Enclave-I, F-14/F-15 Housing Scheme, Park Road Housing Scheme, Lifestyle Residency, Skyline Apartments, Kashmir Avenue Apartments, and Chaklala Heights. Many of these developments remain under construction.
The Senate committee also instructed the authority to strengthen project planning, accelerate development activities, and provide regular progress reports on delayed schemes. The move is expected to improve accountability and reassure allottees awaiting the completion of their housing projects.
