This ban restricts access to these famous apps across the country, concentrating on mobile networks. Access to Facebook and Telegram through mobile connections has also been blocked following previous shutdowns due to fuss over quota reform protests.

This move impacts over 120 million mobile network users in Bangladesh. The ban may lead to increased use of VPNs, which could slow down internet speeds.

The government has explained the restrictions by citing the spread of rumors and fake news on these platforms, especially in the context of ongoing student protests and violence related to quota reform.
