CAA Consult Overseas Corporations to Skardu Airport International
Islamabad: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has formally written to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requesting inclusion of the airport within the listing of international airports of Pakistan after concluding all on-site preparations and legal requirements for operating international flights from Skardu airport.
Speaking with Profit about CAA’s consultations with foreign businesses to open Skardu Airport, CAA Director General Khaqan Murtaza said that while immediate international flight operations were not going as planned because only Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights should fly in this direction due to technical difficulties, other airlines could be permitted to operate to and from this course.
Additionally, he added, “We have consulted two worldwide firms for the review and assessment of making the airport an all-climate destination as flight operations are frequently disrupted by terrible weather conditions. Operations will continue as before under VRF.
However, they have requested that PIA begins operating international flights for Zaireen and Pilgrims from Gilgit Baltistan as a direct flight from Skardu would be beneficial for those who must go through many nations in order to visit Saudi Arabia, Iran, or Iraq.

Direct flights for visitors may be operated throughout the upcoming summer. Skardu and Gilgit airports were among the busiest during the most recent summer season since five to six domestic planes landed there.
In January 2020, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, the federal minister of aviation, announced plans to upgrade Skardu Airport to become an international airport. The terminal building, new runway, and numerous other amenities have to be updated.
