The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has abolished more than 2,900 vacant and redundant posts as part of the federal government’s rightsizing drive aimed at reducing public expenditure and improving administrative efficiency.

The decision was approved in the seventh meeting of the CDA Board held on June 8 and was formally notified by the Human Resource Development Directorate on June 11.

According to the notification, the abolished positions include multiple grades and cover both technical and administrative roles that had remained unfilled for a long period.

The largest reductions include 641 posts of cleaners and sweepers, 400 gardeners, 316 helper positions, 172 security guards, and 161 driver vacancies.

In addition, the authority has eliminated 90 junior assistant posts, 40 assistant director (civil) positions, along with several other roles including junior technicians, stenographers, building inspectors, and research assistants.

CDA officials stated that the move is part of efforts to align the workforce with the federal government’s austerity and rightsizing policy. They further clarified that the abolished posts have been removed from the direct recruitment quota, while promotion quota positions have been frozen to ensure structural continuity.

The government is currently carrying out a broader rightsizing initiative across federal institutions to streamline operations, reduce recurring costs, and eliminate long-standing vacant positions deemed unnecessary.
