CDA, FGEHA Asked to Rainwater Storage Mandatory for Housing
According to news sources, Dr. Mohsin Hafeez, the country representative for the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), has advocated requiring underground rainwater storage tanks in new housing developments in Islamabad.
Dr. Hafeez suggested at a seminar that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Federal Government Employee Housing Authority (FGEHA) should mandate the building of rainwater harvesting and storage facilities to conserve water and ease water scarcity issues in the nation’s capital.
By building underground water storage tanks, water for residential uses such as watering plants and washing cars will be conserved. This will also increase water security and conserve water resources.

In addition, the chairman of the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, stated that his organization is collaborating with the CDA to gain access to the city’s water resources in order to develop improved water-related policy.
Engr. Syed Munawar Shah, a member of the Engineering Department of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), stated that the authority had developed a Project Concept-1 (PC-1) to alleviate water scarcity issues in various sectors of the capital city, including Sectors G-10, G-11, I-10, and G-13, which are experiencing extreme water scarcity.
