CDA to Induct More Firefighting Vehicles

The city administrators of Islamabad have decided to strengthen the firefighting system by adding additional fire tenders to their fleet.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management now possesses 25 fire tenders and four snorkels. However, the snorkels have only a 68-meter-high ladder, meaning they cannot reach high-rise buildings in the event of an emergency.

In discussing the most recent decision of city management to improve Emergency and Disaster Management, they stated that PC-Is had been prepared in the past, but the project never saw the light of day.

The firemen suggested that in addition to acquiring new fire tenders, the municipal agency should initiate work on the four sub-fire stations project begun in 2008 but awaiting financial allocation.

The official stated that despite a lack of funding and personnel, the performance of the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management is significantly superior to that of other MCI and CDA directorates.
