Center, Sindh to Work for Restoration of Lyari & Malir Rivers
Karachi: At a cost of PKR 8 billion, the federal and Sindh governments would work together to rebuild the Lyari and Malir rivers, according to a news source. The Central Development Working Party recently authorised the repair project (CDWP).
The project is a key part of the Karachi Transformation Plan, for which Islamabad has promised to provide an estimated PKR 611 billion, with the province government covering the remaining balance.

Within a year, the rehabilitation project should be finished. The 50-kilometer-long Malir River and the 21-kilometer-long Lyari River are both contaminated with a variety of materials, including silt, trash, and sewage waste.
It is important to note that the Karachi Transformation Plan calls for the development and restoration of the Greater Karachi Water Supply Project (K-IV), Greenline BRT, Railway Freight Corridor, rivers, nullahs, and storm water drains, as well as the relocation of impacted individuals.
