ChatGPT Has Been Leaking Your Conversations
A malfunction in ChatGPT, as reported by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, allowed certain users to see the titles of other users’ conversations. Altman expressed regret over the “significant” error but confirmed that it has been fixed. Some users shared screenshots of chat logs on social media platforms like Reddit and Twitter, claiming that they were not their own. Despite the fix, many users are still worried about the platform’s privacy.

ChatGPT, which has been utilized by millions of people to generate messages, compose music, and program since its launch in November of last year, saves all interactions in the user’s chat history, which can be viewed later. However, earlier this week, users began to see conversation histories in their accounts that they had never had with the chatbot.

A Reddit user shared an image of their chat history that included titles such as “Chinese Socialism Development” and conversations in Mandarin.
OpenAI deactivated the chatbot briefly on Tuesday to resolve the issue, and at that time, users were unable to access the actual conversations. The recent glitch has raised concerns about OpenAI’s ability to access people’s private conversations, leading to worries about potential data breaches. According to OpenAI’s privacy policy, user data, including prompts and responses, may be used for model training, but only after all personally identifiable information has been removed.
OpenAI’s CEO announced on Twitter that a “technical postmortem” will be conducted soon to investigate the matter.
