China to Import 300 Tons of Chillies from Pakistan
Beijing: According to Wu Guang, general manager of CMEC’s Pakistan subsidiary, China will import 300 tonnes of chillies that were harvested and dried at a pilot chilli farm in Lahore in August. This would be the first time since 2020 that Pakistani chillies will be sold in China.

A trial chilli farm project that Pakistani farmers were working on with their Chinese partners, CMEC and Sichuan Litong Food Group, started to bear fruit in July and had a yield that was roughly three times that of Pakistani varieties.
In Lahore, the pilot project successfully planted 100 acres in the first half of 2021. The amount of seeds needed for the 100-acre pilot project is 380 grammes per acre, with a potential output of 3 tonnes per acre. The anticipated total production to reach 300 tons.

According to information, China has imported 13 different kinds of Chinese peppers to Pakistan as of 2019. Three years were needed to complete the pilot study, and only two of the 13 varieties—PJH-302 and PJH-407—have been approved for cultivation in Pakistan.
Nong Rong, the Chinese ambassador to Pakistan, lauded the project for producing more than 8,000 tonnes of dried chilies, which will generate more than 100,000 rupees in net revenue for local farmers per acre.
