Commission Formation to Regularize Illegal Properties & Buildings
Karachi: On December 1st, Karachi Administrator Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced the formation of a committee in Sindh to regularize errant structures and properties. The province government has created an ordinance in this regard, which Governor Sindh Imran Ismail will sign into law.
Six members of a panel, headed by a retired judge of the Sindh Supreme Court’s High Court, are reportedly participating in the planned “Sindh Commission for Regularization of Construction Ordinance, 2021.”
Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Chief Minister of Sindh, will propose the names of the remaining commission members. The commission will levy a fine for tall buildings with multiple stories and housing developments that were created in violation of the law. It is permitted to legalize systems whose destruction is expected to worsen public tragedy and a humanitarian catastrophe. It will also supervise the hearing applications.

In an interview with the press, Murtaza Wahab claimed that the ordinance was the same as the one Punjab had adopted for the criminalization of housing schemes. However, in addition to a special statute forbidding building demolition before the commission’s case is resolved.
