Federal Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Mueen Wattoo informed the National Assembly on Wednesday that the Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme (K-IV) is now expected to be completed by December 2026.
While responding to a calling attention notice over delays in the project despite substantial spending, the minister said the scheme is being implemented under the supervision of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) along with the federal government.
He stated that the federal government has so far spent Rs. 94.67 billion on the project. According to him, the K-IV scheme will supply water to three key distribution points in Karachi that fall under the jurisdiction of WAPDA and federal authorities.
The minister further noted that approximately 67.9% of the project work has been completed, expressing confidence that the federally managed portion would be finished within the revised timeline.
He also suggested that, if necessary, a stakeholder meeting could be held in Karachi involving relevant authorities to review progress and improve oversight and accountability of the project.
