Danish Firm to Assist WASA Set Up Water Treatment Plant in Lahore
Lahore: According to media reports, Danish International Development Aid (DANIDA) would assist the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) in building a wastewater treatment plant for an estimated $100 million.
The Danish company has promised to offer financial and technical support to the treatment plant. The treatment facility would reportedly be built at the WASA disposal facility on Kartar Bund Road in the Southern Lahore district.

The project’s anticipated cost is USD 100 million, of which 65% will be supplied as a soft-term loan and the remaining 35% as financial help, according to WASA’s Managing Director (MD), Syed Zahid Aziz. Lahore, the second-largest metropolis in Pakistan, is expanding quickly, he continued.
According to WASA Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz, the project’s goals were to treat and reuse wastewater for irrigation. At the Lahore branch Canal, close to Thokar Niaz Baig, the water would be given to the Punjab Irrigation Department after being treated. The project will also raise the Ravi River’s water quality.

In terms of project specifics, the facility will have a service area of 5,000 acres and a daily capacity of around 244,700 cubic metres. The project has been approved by the Standing Committee of Cabinet on Finance and Development, according to WASA’s managing director, and construction will shortly begin.
