Deadline to File Tax Returns for FY 2020-21 Expires Tomorrow
Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reportedly announced that the deadline for filing annual tax returns is today, October 15, and that the board has no plans to extend the deadline.
Asad Tahir Cheema, an FBR spokesperson, maintains that the internet platform for filing tax returns, or “IRIS,” is operational. According to him, after the October 15 deadline for filing annual tax returns, no more extensions would be granted.
He added that the most recent delay, from September 30 to October 15, was necessitated by the breakdown of the FBR’s online tax return system IRIS, which compelled the board to extend the filing deadline.
Beneficiaries are permitted to file statements under the 2019 Tax Amnesty Scheme, and a timeline is published.
People should file their taxes by tomorrow to avoid any fines, as the IRIS is currently operational and fully functional. Before the deadline was extended, the board received up to 150,000 tax returns on September 28, before the deadline was extended.
