$130m WB Project to Help Boost Early Education in Sindh Launched
The World Bank inked an agreement in Islamabad to contribute $130 million to the improvement of Sindh’s educational system.

Omar Ayub Khan, Minister of Economic Affairs, observed the signing of the agreement for the $129.99 million Sindh Early Learning Enhancement (SELE) through the Classroom Transformation Project.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the government by Economic Affairs Division additional secretary Zulfiqar Haider, while the World Bank was represented by country director Najy Benhassine. Chief Economist Dr. Naeem Zafar represented the Sindh government at the event.
The project finance consists of a $100 million concessional loan from the World Bank and a $29.99 million Education Sector Plan Implementation Grant from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE). In addition, a GPE Multiplier Grant of $24,78 million will soon be made available to expand the project’s geographic reach.

Mr. Khan praised the management of the World Bank for their unwavering support of the government, especially at this tough time when the nation was confronting escalating health-related and socioeconomic issues.
The minister stated that the provision of great education was one of the government’s top priority because it was vital to the socioeconomic development and prosperity of a nation. He noted that the funding would offer equitable educational chances for both females and boys.
