Farmers Demand Release of Water in Wach Canal
Peshawar: Farmers have voiced severe concerns about the lengthy suspension of irrigation water in Wach Canal and asked the province government to assure water flow in order to prevent additional harm to standing crops in suburban areas of the provincial capital.

Speaking to the media, a group of farmers from various localities, led by the president of the fruit traders and gardeners’ association, Ayub Khan, claimed that the irrigation department had already stopped providing water to the Wach (Warsak-Peshawar) Canal more than two months ago due to its de-silting, which had negatively impacted their crops.

Speaking at the event, Ayub Khan claimed that the water suspension had resulted in significant financial losses for the farmers in the nearby communities of Hazarkhwani, Urmar, Musazai, and others.
De-silting, according to him, was moving slowly. He claimed that while the wealthy landowners had set up solar tube wells to irrigate their farms, the less fortunate farmers were fully dependent on canal water for this purpose.
Governor Shah Farman was commanded by Ayub Khan to direct the quick discharge of water from the canal.
