The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is proceeding with the auction of land owned by Bahria Town in Murree as part of efforts to recover around Rs. 26 billion in outstanding income tax liabilities.
According to official details, the property covers approximately 527 kanals and 10 marlas in Tehsil Murree, District Rawalpindi. The land was attached by the tax authority during recovery proceedings over unpaid tax liabilities.

The property is located at Mauza Kathar Sharqi on Angori Road, Murree. The FBR plans to sell the land through a public bidding process at its Large Taxpayers Office in Islamabad, following the relevant provisions of the Income Tax Ordinance and Income Tax Rules.
Auction Follows Earlier Delay
The auction had previously been scheduled but was postponed due to procedural issues. The tax authority subsequently issued a fresh notice with a revised schedule to continue the recovery process.
The move reflects the FBR’s continued efforts to recover outstanding taxes through enforcement against major taxpayers with unpaid liabilities.
Legal Proceedings Also Underway
The recovery process has also been subject to legal proceedings. A recent court decision dismissed a challenge to the tax recovery action, allowing the FBR to proceed according to applicable law.
The development could attract attention from property investors and developers, particularly as authorities continue taking enforcement measures to recover significant tax liabilities.

For property buyers and investors, the case also highlights the importance of conducting legal and financial due diligence before purchasing real estate. Checking ownership records, outstanding liabilities, litigation, government restrictions and the legal status of a property can help reduce potential investment risks.
The outcome of the auction will be closely watched by the real estate sector as the FBR continues its efforts to recover the outstanding tax amount.
