The Government of Pakistan has officially shifted the business operations of the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) from the Budget Wing to the Debt Management Office (DMO) under the Finance Division, with immediate effect.

According to a notification from the Ministry of Finance, the change has been applied retrospectively from last month.

Previously, CDNS operated under the Budget Wing of the Finance Ministry. Under the new structure, all policy, administrative, and operational responsibilities of CDNS have been transferred to the Debt Management Office.

The decision was made on the recommendation of a committee formed by the Finance Minister and headed by the Advisor to the Finance Minister on Debt, which reviewed CDNS operations.

Officials said the restructuring is intended to improve efficiency and strengthen the management of the National Savings system, which is responsible for mobilizing public savings through various investment schemes.

The Budget Wing will continue to focus on federal budget preparation and expenditure management, while the Debt Management Office will handle government debt strategy and related financial operations.

The notification has been approved by the Finance Secretary, and departments have been instructed to update relevant job descriptions and administrative procedures accordingly.
