Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been elected unopposed as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) following board elections held in Dhaka.
Tamim, who has been serving as chairman of the BCB’s ad-hoc committee for the past two months, will now lead the country’s cricket governing body for a four-year term.
The election was organized after the Bangladesh government dissolved the previous board in April. The decision followed findings from an investigation committee that reportedly linked former BCB president Aminul Islam and another board member to corruption-related issues.
The same inquiry committee also recommended a number of constitutional reforms aimed at strengthening governance within Bangladesh cricket.
Speaking after his election, Tamim said the newly elected board remains open to discussing constitutional amendments if they are considered necessary for the long-term development of the sport.
He acknowledged that there are several areas and potential loopholes that may require review, but noted that any changes to the board’s constitution would require approval from the wider council of 1,972 members.
“For the betterment of Bangladesh cricket, if constitutional changes are needed, we will certainly discuss and consider them,” Tamim said.
The former captain added that the role is still new to him and that he needs time to engage with councillors and stakeholders before identifying key areas that need improvement.
“It is a new experience for me. I still need time to interact with many of the councillors and understand the system better. After discussions, we will be able to identify where improvements are required,” he said.
Tamim also emphasized that transparency and good governance will remain among the top priorities of the new BCB administration as it works to strengthen Bangladesh cricket both on and off the field.
