The government has allocated Rs. 226.98 billion under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for FY2026 to fund 71 National Highway Authority (NHA) projects, according to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025–26.
Majority funds directed to ongoing schemes
Of the total allocation, Rs. 224.83 billion has been earmarked for ongoing development projects, while only Rs. 2.15 billion has been reserved for new initiatives.
The figures indicate a continued policy focus on completing existing infrastructure rather than launching a large number of new road projects in the upcoming fiscal year.
NHA network overview
According to the survey, Pakistan’s NHA network currently comprises 48 national highways, motorways, and strategic roads, covering a total length of approximately 14,480 kilometers.
Focus on connectivity and transport efficiency
The allocated funds will support construction, maintenance, and upgrading work across the national road network, which plays a critical role in freight movement, regional connectivity, and intercity travel.
Policy direction
The spending pattern reflects a strong emphasis on sustaining ongoing infrastructure development, suggesting the government is prioritizing project completion and continuity over expansion into new schemes in FY2026.
