Govt Suffers RS 300bn Loss in Vehicle Registration Scam
Anti-Corruption Establishment reports that thousands of autos were registered in the name of a government body through phone auctions. Some provincial excise and taxation department employees registered these autos, resulting in billions of rupees in losses to the provincial treasury.
The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has unearthed a multi-year scandal involving the registration of used, smuggled, and stolen vehicles, especially trucks and buses, using counterfeit army auction vouchers by a gang of Punjab excise and taxation department officers and private citizens.
The anti-corruption watchdog, which began its investigation in 2017, discovered that the registration of 7,013 vehicles was suspect, with 4,000 of them registered on the basis of forged vouchers, while the records of other vehicles could not be verified, resulting in a direct and indirect loss to the exchequer of Rs 300 billion.

In this instance, however, the standard protocol was completely disregarded. According to the anti-corruption authority, 7,013 vehicles were registered between 2015 and 2018.
