Govt Fails to Disburse Rs 7.95Bn, Development of Tribal Districts
The federal government has failed to disburse the Rs 7.95 billion allocated for the development of tribal regions in the budget for the preceding fiscal year.

Following the merger of tribal districts with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the federal government established the Merged Areas Annual Development Programme (ADP) and the Accelerated Integrated Program (AIP), through which it directed the KP government to carry out ongoing development projects in the tribal districts.
The federal government had pledged Rs 24 billion for this year’s development programme, but only provided 67 percent (Rs 16,4 billion) of the budgeted funding for combined districts in the development programme. The remaining Rs 7.95 billion has not yet been distributed.
According to planning department officials, a number of letters have been sent to the federal government requesting the release of allotted funds to complete current development projects in tribal regions. Nevertheless, a few of the officials indicated that the federal government intends to cut the assigned cash.

The planning department reported that the federal government had budgeted Rs 3.7 billion to encourage enrollment of female students in tribal districts, but no funds have been provided for the initiative this year. According to sources, under the plan, female students with a 70 percent attendance rate were to get monthly stipends, but the federal government did not allocate any cash for the project.
