Green Line Project to Arrive with Remaining 40 Buses
The second and last shipment of 40 buses for the Green Line project arrived in Karachi on Thursday, bringing the total number of buses to 80 and reviving Karachiites’ hopes that the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) will soon be opened in the metropolitan area. It is designed to accommodate around 300,000 passengers per day.

The MV IVY Ocean was supposed to arrive at the Karachi Port on October 14, but the unloading of the buses was delayed by one week due to the lack of a berth for the massive cargo ship.
Asad Umar, the federal minister for planning and development, took to social media to announce the buses’ arrival and express his confidence that the bus service would begin on time.
The first batch of 40 buses arrived in the city on September 19, which the minister referred to as a “ray of hope” and a “milestone,” calling it the beginning of modern public transport service for Karachiites after a long gap of 40 years after the tragic death of a girl in a road accident drastically altered its political landscape.

The Green Line project, conceived and initiated by then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in February 2016 and sponsored by the federal government, was originally slated to be completed within a year at the cost of approximately Rs 16,85 billion. However, it took almost five years and Rs 35 billion to complete.
