Federal Minister for Planning and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has said that a clear timeline has been committed for the completion of the Hyderabad–Sukkur motorway project, as the government continues to push forward its infrastructure development agenda.
Speaking during the budget debate in response to MQM-P’s Syed Waseem Hussain, the minister said work on the revised alignment of the M-9 Karachi–Hyderabad motorway has already begun. He reaffirmed that improving regional connectivity remains a key priority under the government’s long-term development strategy.
Focus on Regional Development and Connectivity
Ahsan Iqbal noted that large-scale transport infrastructure projects are central to driving economic growth and improving mobility across major urban corridors. He said the government is working to ensure that such projects are completed within defined timelines to avoid unnecessary delays.
He also highlighted development efforts in Hyderabad, stating that the federal government has already provided funding support for the establishment of a new university in the city.
According to the minister, Hyderabad has historically faced a shortage of higher education institutions, and the new university project aims to bridge this gap through targeted public investment.
K-IV Water Project Progress
The minister also provided an update on the long-delayed K-IV (K-4) water project, stating that progress is underway and the scheme is expected to supply water to Karachi by December 2026.
He added that once completed, operational control of the project will be handed over to the provincial government for execution and management.
Call for Federal–Provincial Coordination
Ahsan Iqbal stressed that stronger coordination between federal and provincial authorities is essential for timely completion of major infrastructure and public welfare projects.
He said such collaboration is necessary to improve service delivery, reduce delays, and ensure that development outcomes are effectively delivered to urban populations.
Reiterating the government’s priorities, the minister said the development agenda is focused on strengthening connectivity, expanding educational opportunities, and improving urban infrastructure to support long-term economic stability and growth.
