The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has proposed increasing financial assistance under Pakistan’s Benazir Income Support Programme by Rs. 5,500 to provide greater relief to low-income families facing rising inflation and living costs.

According to details from ongoing discussions between Pakistani authorities and the IMF, the proposal suggests raising the quarterly BISP Kafalat payment from Rs. 14,500 to Rs. 20,000.

The recommendation is currently under review and has not yet received final approval. Officials from the government, the IMF, and the Federal Board of Revenue are continuing negotiations as part of the broader economic reform and assessment process.

Today’s discussions reportedly focused on increasing social protection spending through BISP while also reviewing tax reforms, exemptions, and fiscal policy measures linked to the IMF program.

Further negotiations are expected in the coming days to decide whether the proposed increase will be approved in full or adjusted under the final agreement framework.
