Indian Govt Backed Hacking Group “DoNot” is Targeting Pakistan
Pakistan has been the target of cyberattacks from the state-sponsored hacking group “DoNot” in India.
The “DoNot” organization, also known as APT-C-35 & Sector E02, is allegedly spying on Pakistan’s civil and military establishments. This is according to cabinet division advisory.

The gang has been active since 2016, and the alert claims that it targets South Asian businesses and individuals with sophisticated Windows and Android malware. In order to conduct cyber espionage, the “DoNot” hacking squad primarily gathers and exfiltrates material to Indian intelligence agencies.
The advice claims that the threat actor recently created improvised cyberattack toolkits, which worried potential victims. The hacker organization has been identified in notifications from different cyber threat intelligence watchdogs.
The “DoNot” organization has been discovered to target South Asian nations like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal as well as their embassies abroad. The group is also thought to be targeting global developing powers. The hacking group is interested in political and military institutions, as well as embassies and foreign ministry offices.

The advice claims that DoNot APT has been regularly using spear phishing emails and malware attachments to attack important organizations. The organization has been employing sophisticated approaches on the same victims in recurrent attack patterns.
The advice claims that the hacker organization is utilizing macros in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other program to get remote access. It achieves its objectives by including links to malware download and shell access in Windows Framework RTF files with.doc extensions.
The most recent attack method employed by APT-C-35 is this one. Using YTY Malware, which was produced by DoNotDisturb, the gang is also targeting government institutions. APT is made up of a series of downloaders that together download a backdoor with rudimentary functionality that may be used to download and run additional parts of the DoNot Team’s toolkit.

To guard against “DoNot” APT assaults, the cabinet division has suggested preventive actions. The government agencies have been urged by the advise to use system hardening at all endpoints. To ensure defence against Kerberos-based attacks, it has requested that active directory domain networks be hardened.
The alert has urged both civilian and military organizations to monitor and restrict the execution of unsigned executables from the %tmp% and %AppData directories as well as signed executables like PsExec.exe, Netcat.exe, Socat.exe, and netcat.exe.

The advice has requested that all government agencies conduct recurring malware-focused examinations of all endpoints. Using open source extended detection and response, endpoint detection and response, and security information and event management solutions, it has been suggested that government organisations use reputable anti-malware/anti-virus software and set up security operations centres to ensure host visibility at the organisational level.
