The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police have announced a special traffic plan for Islamabad and Rawalpindi ahead of the Iranian President’s visit, with road closures, diversions, and restrictions on heavy traffic expected to remain in effect until further notice.
According to the advisory, entry of all types of heavy traffic into Islamabad will be completely banned from 12:00 midnight, regardless of the route used. The restriction will remain in place until further instructions are issued.
Authorities have also confirmed that all entry points to the Red Zone will remain closed for general traffic, with limited access only via Marriott Road and Margalla Road.
As part of the plan, major diversions will be implemented on key arteries including the Expressway (Koral to Faizabad), Murree Road, and Club Road. Srinagar Highway will remain completely closed from Zero Point to Dhokri Chowk.
Commuters have been advised to use alternate routes during the movement of the foreign delegation. Traffic between Faisal Avenue and Zero Point will be diverted toward 9th Avenue.
If the Zero Point–Koral Chowk route is closed, motorists can use Srinagar Highway, 9th Avenue, Stadium Road, Murree Road via Chandni Chowk, and Rawal Road to reach Koral.
In case of closure of Club Road from Park Road, traffic will be diverted toward Taramri Chowk. Travelers between Bharakahu and Rawalpindi have been advised to use Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road as alternative routes.

For commuters between Rawalpindi Saddar and Islamabad, authorities have recommended either Colonel Sher Khan Road via Faqir Aipi Road or 9th Avenue.
A separate diversion plan has also been issued for heavy traffic on GT Road. Vehicles traveling from Peshawar to Lahore will be diverted from Taxila to the Motorway, then via Chakri Interchange and Chak Beli Road to Rawat GT Road. Similarly, traffic from Lahore to Peshawar will be rerouted through Rawat, Chak Beli Road, and Chakri Interchange before rejoining the Motorway toward Taxila.
The traffic management plan has been issued to ensure security and smooth movement during the high-level foreign visit. Authorities have cautioned that commuters in both cities may experience significant disruptions on major routes.
