Islamabad’s Ataturk Avenue to be Refurbished with Plastic Waste
Islamabad: According to news sources, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) worked with Afghanistan, Teamup/National Incubation Centre, and Coca-Cola Pakistan to “recarpet national highways with plastic garbage.”

Under this effort, a one-kilometer length of Attaturk Avenue in Islamabad would be restored using more than eight and a half tonnes of recovered plastic, including plastic/PET bottles.
Re-carpeting will reportedly be accomplished by combining plastic waste with road construction materials. The project is a component of the “World without Waste” campaign to attain a packaging footprint of zero.
A government official claimed that, contingent upon the project’s success, CDA will construct plastic roads at its own expense in the future to assist combat environmental pollution.

This innovative technology is used globally, but Pakistan is the first country to adopt the plan through a public-private collaboration. According to research conducted, roadways reconstructed with plastic are twice as durable and 51% stronger.
