Japan Provides $31 Million Aid for Maternal & Child Healthcare
Pakistan has received a JPY 3,445 million (about $31.4 million) grant from Japan for the expansion of maternal and child health care facilities in Sindh.

A new mother and child health center will be developed at Jamshoro’s Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS), a public medical institution that serves as the regional hub hospital for the Hyderabad area.
The maternal and child health facility would include obstetrics and pediatrics departments, as well as a labor room, obstetrics ward, neonatal intensive care unit, maternal and fetal intensive care unit, laboratory, and outpatient consultation rooms.
In addition, Japan has supported Pakistan’s Polio Eradication effort since 1996. The combined grant and loan contributions from Japan total $226.37 million.

Regarding COVID-19, Japan has granted Pakistan a total of $23.5 million to supplement its countermeasures against COVID-19 as follows:

- April-May 2020: Disbursement of a total of $7.41 million to UNICEF, IOM, IFRC, UNHCR, and UNOPS for the provision of sanitary products, training of health workers, and the provision of alternative learning opportunities, etc.
- Dec 2020: Grant Assistance of $9,500,000 for the acquisition of medical equipment to the NDMA.
- Grant Assistance of $6.59 million to UNICEF in March 2021 for enhancing the vaccine cold-chain.
