Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has accelerated the construction of two new underground water reservoirs to store rainwater in order to prevent urban flooding during the upcoming monsoon.
Both reservoirs will be completed prior to the upcoming monsoon season and will hold more than three million gallons of water that will be used by the PHA for gardening and firefighting vehicles.

Wasa is the first organisation in Pakistan to implement underground rainwater storage tanks in an effort to combat urban flooding, according to Wasa Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz. He stated that President Arif Alvi admired the project and desired to replicate it in Karachi.
Wasa MD stated that Kashmir Road and Sheranwala Gate were two of the 26 trouble spots in the provincial metropolis where rainwater remained stagnant, disrupting traffic and causing annoyance to the citizens.
Wednesday, the Wasa MD presided over a meeting regarding the agency’s annual development plans at the agency’s headquarters. He was informed that during the fiscal year 2020-21, 31 development projects with a combined cost of Rs 8,977 billion were initiated.

He stated that out of the total amount, Rs 1.22 billion had been received from the Punjab government, and that by June 30, 2021, all allocated funds for development projects would be used up.
Wasa’s managing director stated that the utilization of all allocated funds for water sector projects was a significant accomplishment. Similarly, Trunk Saver in Green Town was completed at a cost of Rs 208 million.
