A K2 Airways cargo aircraft traveling from Sharjah to Karachi was reported missing on Tuesday night after experiencing a navigational system malfunction, prompting an extensive search and rescue operation by Pakistani authorities.
According to the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), the Boeing 737 cargo flight reported a navigation system issue at approximately 9:18 pm PST while en route to Karachi. Air traffic controllers at the Karachi Area Control Centre (ACC) immediately provided assistance to the aircraft.
Three minutes later, at around 9:21 pm PST, radar data showed the aircraft making a sudden change in direction before rapidly losing altitude. Shortly afterward, both radar contact and communication with the aircraft were lost approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi.
Following the loss of contact, the Pakistan Airports Authority activated its Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) and launched a search and rescue operation in the Arabian Sea in coordination with relevant agencies.
Officials confirmed that five crew members were on board the cargo aircraft at the time of the incident. Authorities have not yet released further details as search efforts continue.
