KCR: 22 Level Crossings Eliminated to Ease Traffic Flow
According to news reports, the federal government has approved the deletion of 22 level crossings on the loop part of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) to simplify the movement of trains.

In a meeting led by the Minister of Finance and Revenue, Shaukat Tarin, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) endorsed the Planning Commission’s report.
It is projected that the project will cost PKR 20.71 billion to complete and will improve rail movement without increasing traffic congestion. Along the KCR corridor, the railway ministry has instead recommended the construction of overhead bridges and underpasses. The Central Development Working Group (CDWP) will be empowered to assess projects where ECNEC has approved the project in an effort to reduce costs.

If the rationalization process results in a cost reduction, the CDWP will approve such projects and send a progress report to the ECNEC chairman for evaluation. The project will be resubmitted to ECNEC for examination and approval in the case of an increase in cost rationalization or revision.
