Kenya Pondering Pakistani Kinnow, Mango Export
Islamabad: According to the All Pakistan Fruit & Vegetable Exporters, Importers & Merchants Association (PFVA) and the Department of Plant Production (DPP) serving under the Federal Ministry of National Food Security & Research and the Ministry of Commerce, Pakistan may soon export fruits such as kinnow and mango to Kenya, gaining access to a major international market in Africa.

According to sources, a Kenyan crew of quarantine experts visited Pakistan earlier this month to evaluate the possibility of importing the two fruits, and they were pleased with the quality of the quarantine facilities. According to officials, the development of new markets in Africa will facilitate Pakistan’s entry into other connected markets for horticultural exports. Similarly, horticulture exporters said that the Kenyan delegation’s visit was a tremendous success, with foreign specialists applauding the high quality of processing plants and rigorous compliance with quarantine regulations.

If kinnow exports commence this season, Kenya has the potential to become a lucrative foreign market for Pakistani citrus, with a market size of 40,000 to 50,000 tonnes.
