The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is considering a proposal to launch an inter-district Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service on motorways, with the aim of improving public transport connections between Peshawar and other districts.
According to a provincial government spokesperson, the proposed service could connect Peshawar with Mardan, Nowshera, and Swat through the motorway network.
Feasibility Study to Assess Proposed BRT Service
The KP Transport Department is expected to conduct a feasibility study before any final decision is made on the project.

The study will examine several key aspects, including:
- Proposed routes
- BRT station locations
- Estimated project cost
- Operational requirements
- Passenger demand
- Other infrastructure needs
The findings will help authorities determine whether the proposed inter-district BRT service is technically and financially viable.
Motorway Network Could Offer Faster Connections
Transport officials believe operating the BRT service through the motorway network could provide a more convenient alternative to routes using the GT Road.
The proposed system is intended to improve connectivity between Peshawar and surrounding districts while providing a more convenient travel option for passengers commuting between major urban areas.
If implemented, the service could benefit students, workers, business travelers, and other passengers who regularly travel between Peshawar and nearby districts.

Project Still at Planning Stage
The proposed inter-district BRT service remains under consideration, and no final implementation timeline has been announced.
The feasibility study will play a key role in determining the project’s routes, costs, station locations, and operational requirements.
If approved and successfully implemented, the initiative could strengthen regional connectivity and expand the reach of KP’s public transportation network beyond the existing urban BRT system.
