KP Government Constructing 380 Fish Farms in Malakand, Hazara
To increase meat production in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the government is constructing 380 trout fish farms, primarily in Malakand and Hazara divisions.

Monday, Fisheries Department officials announced that 287 trout fish farms are being constructed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the Development of Cold Water Fisheries Project (DCWFP) at a cost of Rs 772.148 million under the Agriculture Development Programme of the Prime Minister (PMAGDP).
Similarly, approximately 93 are being constructed in Malakand and Hazara divisions under the Establishment of Trout Villages’ Project (ETVP) at an estimated cost of Rs 395.49 million. Trout farming is ideally suited to the regions of Kalam, Madain, Kaghan, Naran, Mahodhand, and Malam Jabba in Upper Swat, Naran, Kaghan, Siran, and Upper Manshera in the Kurram tribal district, as well as Parachinar.

The official stated that a new project for the conservation and development of the ‘Mahsher fish’ with an estimated cost of Rs 100 million, including an allocation of Rs 30 million for the Annual Development Programme 2021-22, is being launched in order to increase its production and ensure its conservation along modern lines.
The official stated that after the completion of these mega projects, KP would become a hub for trout and masher fish, and its exports to the Middle East, Afghanistan, Central Asian states, and other international markets would be substantially increased.
