LAHORE: The Punjab Ring Road Authority has announced a series of infrastructure, traffic management and revenue-generation measures aimed at improving travel facilities and strengthening enforcement along the Lahore Ring Road.
Punjab Ring Road Authority Chairperson Safiullah Gondal said a comprehensive plan has been prepared to reconstruct and rehabilitate service lanes that have remained neglected for several years.
According to the authority, the rehabilitation work will be carried out in phases to improve road conditions and provide motorists with safer and more convenient travel facilities.
Rs. 400 Million Revenue Target
The authority has also set a target of collecting approximately Rs. 400 million in No Objection Certificate (NOC) fees from businesses using Ring Road service lanes for commercial purposes without paying the required charges.
Officials said the revenue collected through these fees will be directed towards infrastructure improvement and development projects along the Ring Road.
The initiative is expected to strengthen the authority’s revenue position while generating additional funds for maintenance and development activities.
Lahore Ring Road Streetlights to Shift to Solar Power
In another major infrastructure initiative, the Punjab Ring Road Authority has developed a plan to gradually convert streetlights along the Ring Road to solar power.
The solarisation project is expected to reduce electricity-related operating costs while supporting a more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly lighting system.
The move is part of the authority’s broader efforts to modernise infrastructure and reduce recurring operational expenses.
Automated Traffic Monitoring and E-Challan System
The authority has also decided to modernise traffic enforcement and policing along the Lahore Ring Road in line with the operational model of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority.
Under the proposed automated system, cameras will continuously monitor traffic and identify violations. An electronic challan system will also be introduced to improve enforcement and encourage motorists to comply with traffic regulations.
Ring Road Police will coordinate with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority and use modern surveillance and enforcement technology to strengthen traffic management.
Officials expect the system to improve traffic discipline, enhance monitoring and create a safer environment for motorists travelling on the Ring Road.
Focus on Modern Infrastructure
Safiullah Gondal said the authority plans to strengthen its revenue collection system through technology, transparency and administrative reforms.
He added that available resources would be utilised to improve travel facilities and bring the Lahore Ring Road closer to international standards.
The proposed measures—including service-lane rehabilitation, solar-powered streetlights, automated traffic monitoring and e-challans—are expected to play an important role in improving infrastructure and traffic management on one of Lahore’s key road networks.
