LWMC Approves Waste Collection Outsourcing Projects
Lahore: The Board of Directors (BoD) of the Lahore Garbage Management Company has authorized the town-by-town secondary waste collection outsourcing projects following a competitive bidding process.

The per-tonne rates provided by the contractors will result in savings of Rs 514 million as compared to the rates charged by the present temporary contractors recruited for a transitional period after the contract with Turkish contractors expired in December of last year.
The secondary waste collection outsourcing project has been awarded for Rs 625 per ton of solid waste in Ravi Town, Rs 1,113 per ton in Allama Iqbal Town, Rs 848 in Nishtar Town, Rs 745 in Samanabad Town, Rs 689 in Data Ganj Bakhsh Town, Rs 438 in Shalimar Town, Rs 645 in Gulberg Town, Rs 466 in Aziz Bhatti Town, and Rs 384 per ton in Wagah Town, The rates charged by temporary contractors for Ravi, Iqbal, Nishter, Samanabad, Data Ganj Bakhsh, Shalimar, Gulberg, Aziz Bhatti, and Wagah, respectively, were Rs 1,010, Rs 1,250, Rs 1,218; Rs 1,100, Rs 1,100; Rs 944, Rs 1,275; Rs 849; and Rs 744.

The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) states that completion of numerous ongoing mega projects will ensure that Karachi and Peshawar inhabitants have access to 950 million gallons (per day) of potable water.
