Recently, Talha Ahad from The Centrum Media (TCM) and Simon Milner, Vice President of Public Policy at Meta for the Asia Pacific, discussed Meta’s initiatives to promote digital innovation in Pakistan. Meta’s plan to build a 45,000-kilometer undersea cable linking Karachi to 33 countries in Africa and the Middle East is a major focal point. The goal is to enhance internet connectivity and help local users, particularly artists. With this project, which should be finished by 2025, bandwidth and speed will increase, and services will continue functioning as intended in Pakistan.

With its Llama AI program, Meta is also advancing AI innovation in Pakistan. The business organized an AI competition that drew over 100 competitors in association with NITB and the Ministry of IT. In Singapore, the winning team will compete for a $100,000 prize on behalf of Pakistan. Milner emphasized Pakistan’s part in Meta’s larger plan to promote technological innovation and help regional developers.

Another area of focus for Pakistani content providers is monetization. Milner acknowledges that there are still issues with local banking rules. Nevertheless, Meta is attempting to address these problems and plans to begin monetization shortly. As a result, it will provide new avenues for creators to get paid. Milner thinks this will help Pakistan’s developing digital economy a lot.
