Millions of Websites Are in Danger Due to This WordPress Exploit
According to researchers, hackers are exploiting a critical vulnerability in a widely used WordPress plugin, which could enable them to take control of millions of websites.
The vulnerability, which has a severity ranking of 8.8 out of 10, exists in Elementor Pro, a popular plugin used by over 12 million WordPress-powered websites.

Elementor Pro includes a variety of features for building high-quality websites, including WooCommerce, a distinct WordPress plugin. A subscriber or customer can create new accounts with full administrator rights if certain conditions are met, including having a user account on the site.

Jerome Bruandet, a security researcher with NinTechNet, found the flaw. With version 3.11.7, Elementor has since patched the vulnerability. He stated:
An authenticated attacker can exploit the vulnerability to establish an administrator account by enabling registration and changing the default position to “administrator,” change the administrator email address, or redirect all traffic to an external malicious website, among other things.
Separate security firm PatchStack researchers confirmed that the vulnerability is actively being exploited.

If you are an Elementor Pro user, you must ensure that your version is 3.11.7 or higher, as any older version is vulnerable. It is also recommended that these users check their websites for signs of infection.
