The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has launched a nationwide “Go Cashless” campaign for Eid ul Azha 2026 to encourage digital payments in cattle markets across Pakistan.

The initiative is part of the central bank’s broader efforts to reduce cash usage and promote digital financial services during one of the country’s busiest trading seasons.

Cattle markets see heavy buying and selling activity during Eid ul Azha, with most payments traditionally made in cash. The SBP said it has been using this seasonal activity in recent years to promote digital payment systems and improve financial inclusion.

This year, the campaign has been expanded significantly. The number of cattle markets included has increased from 54 in 2025 to 96 markets across the country in 2026.

Under the campaign, 22 banks will set up special camps and kiosks in selected cattle markets to help buyers and sellers use digital payment methods.

The participating banks will assist cattle traders, transporters, and other service providers in opening accounts and using QR code payment systems for transactions.

To support increased transaction activity during the Eid season, the SBP has also temporarily relaxed transaction and account balance limits from May 14, 2026 to June 5, 2026.

Additionally, mobile banking vans, ATMs, and cash deposit machines will be installed where possible to improve access to banking services near cattle markets.

The central bank has advised the public to use mobile banking apps, branchless banking wallets, Raast services, and QR code payments for Eid-related purchases.

According to the SBP, digital payments provide greater convenience and security, lower the risks of carrying large amounts of cash, and help create a more transparent and inclusive financial system in Pakistan.
