Islamabad: The federal government has announced plans to extend the Murree Expressway (N-75) by approximately 70 kilometres to Muzaffarabad, aiming to connect Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) with Pakistan’s expanding motorway and expressway network.

The announcement was made by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan during a high-level meeting of the National Highway Authority (NHA), where officials reviewed key infrastructure priorities for the current fiscal year.

According to the minister, the proposed Murree–Muzaffarabad Expressway will provide residents of AJK with a faster, safer, and more efficient road connection while improving regional accessibility. The project is also expected to strengthen links between AJK and the country’s national motorway network.

During the meeting, Abdul Aleem Khan directed the NHA to focus on completing 25 ongoing infrastructure projects before initiating new schemes. He emphasized the importance of delivering priority road projects on schedule to support economic development and improve nationwide connectivity.

The minister also instructed the NHA to expedite work on the M-8 Motorway, particularly the Hoshab–Awaran Road and the Awaran–Nal sections. He noted that these routes are strategically important for enhancing trade with Iran and promoting tourism in the region.

The meeting concluded with detailed briefings from the Secretary for Communications and the NHA Chairman, who presented updates on the authority’s financial outlook and development plans for the current fiscal year.
