NA Body Favors Bill to Set up Institute of Education in Capital
A parliamentary committee in Islamabad has passed the Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE) Bill, which will allow the government to establish an institution of excellence for research, assessment, training, and management information system in the education sector.

According to the bill’s statement of purpose and reasons, the government has chosen to unite the Academy of Educational Planning and Management and the National Assessment System in order to create the PIE, which will assume the combined functions of the two organizations.
The primary functions of the institute are the collecting, analysis, and reporting of comprehensive education data at the national and international levels to assist policy, planning, and research, as well as future education changes.

Earlier, the committee postponed until its next meeting the “Pakistan Global Institute Bill 2021” (government bill) and the “NCS-Institute of Sciences Bill 2021” (introduced by MNA James Iqbal).
The committee also deferred an agenda item relating the Single National Curriculum (SNC) at the request of the parliamentary secretary, as federal minister Shafqat Mahmood will inform the members on it at the next meeting.
