NADRA Launches Contactless Biometric Verification Services
As requested by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched the latest Contactless Biometric Verification Services for the Banking and Payments Industry in Islamabad, making Pakistan one of the first nations in the world to implement this Technology on a National Level.

Banks in Pakistan will utilize a smartphone app that captures and verifies the biometrics of prospective account users from their residences. With the implementation of this digital technology, the banking system will undergo a paradigm shift, as remote biometric capture technology will be added to the digital banking system.
Last week, NADRA introduced a new service, for which banks have begun development efforts. This service will also be provided to Electronic Money Institutions (EMIs) and branchless banking services by NADRA.

The banks and EMIs are anticipated to begin offering new digital banking services to their consumers, allowing bank users to open bank accounts and wallets and conduct biometric-based financial transactions using their Mobile Phone Cameras from the comfort of their own homes.
NADRA previously created a similar mobile verification tool for Online ID Services (Pak ID), which was launched on 1 September 2021 by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
