Nadra Latest Service for Citizens to Protect Personal Data
Thursday, National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) inaugurated Pakistan’s first data protection service, Ijazat Aap Ki, giving citizens control over their personal information.
Citizens will be able to provide their consent prior to the verification of their identity cards, and their sensitive information will be secured and secure at all times.
The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has pledged that the privacy of citizens’ data will be secured by effective safeguards.
While establishing the service, Nadra Chairman Tariq Malik stated that consent management was a digital mechanism in line with his aim to preserve the privacy of residents and promote data security.
“Your data is your personal property, and like with your physical property, citizens are now able to manage access and protect it from misuse or unauthorised use,” he said.
Before exploiting a citizen’s personal information, service providers, including banks, will request permission via a passcode, according to Malik.
He also emphasised the importance of citizens remaining alert in preserving their personal information and urged them to take all actions necessary to prevent identity theft and fraud.
Via this service, as of 2 March, all verification transactions will require a 6-digit passcode issued to the citizens’ registered mobile numbers in order to obtain their authorization to share data.
The presentation of the PIN for authentication will be interpreted as the citizen’s authorization for Nadra to verify their ID number.
At the time of ID card registration, Nadra will gather mobile phone numbers from citizens. Also, the administration has launched an SMS service that allows residents to register their mobile phone numbers.
To register their mobile number with Nadra, citizens can send a text message with their 13-digit identification card number to the number 8009. When enrollment is successful, the authority will send a confirmation message to the sender.
