NCRC Asked to Ensure Protection of Child Rights
Karachi: Officials from government ministries, police, jails, independent institutions, and civil society have requested that the National Commission on the Rights of the Child (NCRC) include children’s voices and other child-specific serious concerns regarding child rights in its strategic plan.

They were speaking at a hotel-based strategic planning consultation workshop.
They emphasised the importance of bolstering and empowering the NCRC in order for it to function as an independent national human rights organisation (NHRI), as required by the international norms known as the Paris Principles.
Other stakeholders recommended that the NCRC prioritise child rights issues such as child labour, child marriage, child sexual abuse, and education inequality. In addition, they urged that the education budget be increased to at least the committed four percent of the gross domestic product.

Additionally, the NCRC should maintain a national database of indicators pertaining to children’s rights and share them with various stakeholders so that they may make educated policy decisions.
They also asked the establishment of a nationwide hotline to ensure that child abuse victims receive prompt aid.
