The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved a fuel cost adjustment of 34 paisa per unit for May, resulting in an additional burden of approximately Rs. 4.2 billion on electricity consumers through their July bills.
The decision follows a public hearing on a request submitted by the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee (CPPA-G), which had proposed a higher fuel cost adjustment of Rs. 0.817 per unit to recover increased fuel expenses incurred during the month.
After reviewing the submitted data and generation costs, Nepra approved a significantly lower adjustment of around 34 paisa per unit, reducing the impact on consumers compared to the amount originally requested by CPPA-G.
The revised fuel cost adjustment will be reflected in electricity bills issued for July, in line with Nepra’s monthly tariff adjustment mechanism.
