New Gwadar International Airport Adopts Green Coverage Initiative
In order to achieve the Belt and Road Initiative’s (BRI) commitment to ecologically sustainable practises, the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) is planning to execute the “Green Coverage Initiative,” according to news sources from June 27.
Gwadar International Airport will become green, it was decided at a meeting with the Civil Aviation Authority, the Gwadar Development Authority, and the China Overseas Port Holding Company (COPHC). According to the details, the initiative’s initial stage will involve planting trees along the NGIA’s entrance and exit lanes, a distance of more than three kilometers.

The huge 4,300-acre region around the airport will be divided into designated areas in the second phase, where a variety of tree species will be planted to improve the lush ecology. Tropical commercial tree species will be carefully picked to address the environmental issues caused by Gwadar’s climate and soil salinity. It is generally known that these species can adapt to high temperatures, salt, winds, sand, and drought.
The majority of the plants will be obtained by the Civil Aviation Authority from the Plant Tissue Culture Lab and Green House of the Belt and Road Engineering Research Centre for Tropical Arid Non-Wood Forest in order to assure the success of this green effort. In keeping with international aspirations for a sustainable future, greening the Gwadar International Airport is a key step towards sustainable development.
