Owners of Land by CDA to Get Compensation in Market Value

Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) ruled on 35 petitions seeking compensations for thousands of individuals whose inherited lands were acquired for the building of residential districts in the federal capital.

In the momentous ruling, Chief Justice Athar Minallah stated that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) had abused its authority to acquire property from villagers in order to develop mostly sectors for the affluent. On the other side, the impacted peasants were still attempting to obtain compensation for the land they had inherited.

The court ruled that the affected landowners must be compensated based on the current market worth of their property. It also instructed the federal government to adopt an unified policy on land compensation for residential development.

According to papers filed to the court by the CDA, 304.62 square kilometers of land have been acquired to date. Later on, for reasons best known to the CDA, it became standard to acquire land and built-up assets separately.

The prizes were not announced simultaneously, but separately. The CDA has thus far announced 527 land acquisition awards and 158 built-up property awards.

According to the settlement, the landowner will receive a developed plot of one kanal for every four kanals and a 10-marla plot for every two kanals.
