Pakistan Business Council Urges Govt to Renegotiate IMF Deal
Business leaders in the nation have pushed the government to renegotiate the IMF programme in light of rising energy prices, rising unemployment, price increases, and other economic concerns.

Finance Minister Hammad Azhar had earlier on April 1 made suggestions that the IMF programme and the contentious State Bank of Pakistan Amendment Bill 2021 might be reviewed.
At his first news conference as finance minister, he stated, “We are taking the SBP law to parliament with an open mind and are ready to adopt recommendations for its improvement.” A day earlier, Pakistan had launched a $2.5 billion international bond and had received the $500 million tranche from the IMF.
He responded that the government always has the authority to examine the programme when asked if, given its challenging requirements, the program’s design could also be altered.
