Pakistan Railways has outsourced the commercial operations of five passenger trains to private sector partners under agreements worth Rs. 10.75 billion, in a move aimed at improving revenue generation and service quality.
According to official sources, the initiative is expected to strengthen Pakistan Railways’ financial position while enhancing passenger facilities through private sector participation. Officials said the selected trains were previously generating relatively low revenue, prompting the shift toward a more performance-driven operational model.
Under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements, Awam Express, Millat Express, and Karakoram Express will now be operated by private partners. Railway authorities believe this transition will improve efficiency, service standards, and overall passenger experience.
In addition, Mianwali Passenger and Narowal Passenger trains have also been handed over to private operators. Officials expect that the new management structure will lead to better maintenance, upgraded onboard facilities, and improved customer service across these routes.
